COLISEUM, COLI-U-DONT

Former Bruin QB David Norrie and Terry Gannon are doing the USCLA telecast this afternoon. Sure, they're solid, but Keith Jackson called this game for as long as I can recall breathing, and it just doesn't have the same feel without him.

Uniforms: I'd like to see the Bruins return to either the swirly gold numerals or the navy-blue numerals. Not a fan of these.

Johntourager LA, a Trojan gal, reports that there is someone at the game wearing a Stanford T-shirt and wonders if that individual has a death wish.

Jeannine Edwards, our sideline reporter, is giving both sides of the story on the stadium issue in L.A. You know, I assume, that USC wants to upgrade the Coliseum, which is located at the edge of their campus. But USC wants some ownership (concessions, etc.) for the next 40 years in exchange. And the city of LA isn't eager to make that deal, which is just ridonkulous. The Coliseum is a classic structure, but what does it have if USC isn't playing there?
On the other hand, where else is USC going to play? The Home Depot Center? There's no reason the Bruins should allow them to make the Rose Bowl home for anything more than one season. There's being neighborly and then there's just being self-defeatist. Historically, it was the Trojans (and not their adversaries) who made the fatal error of welcoming their enemies into their environs.

David Norrie: "You don't give a sideline in a USC-UCLA game! It's a rivalry game!" You said it, Davey.

Sorbet Watch

Tennessee leads LSU 7-6 at the half. Tigers really miss Matt Flynn, apparently. I thought that "war daddy" Jacob Hester would compensate for that, but the Vols have come to play, apparently.
