First of Many 'Favre Return?' Stories Emerge
The L.A. Times reports today that Brett Favre's agent has been quietly asking teams whether they'd be interested in dealing for the recently-retired Green Bay icon.
The agent in question, Bus Cook, was tracked down by Times' writer Sam Farmer and said that news of his making inquiries was, well, news to him.
"He's retired, period, point blank," said Cook.
But it's a cynical world in which we dwell so forgive us if we aren't completely buying Bus' bluster.
When a player of Favre's still-visible talent quits and is torn to the emotional core by the decision, doubts linger. And the general public is going to need extra convincing when stories like Farmer's emerge.
Adding to the nagging feeling there's something to the report is the fact that Favre still hasn't turned in his retirement papers.
If there is truth to what sources told Farmer, which teams might Cook have contacted? Well, the Raiders would be one. And they're actually in Farmer's jurisdiction. There's also Kansas City, Baltimore, Atlanta, Miami and any other QB-poor team you can think of. The problem with all of those teams? They stink. And it's very hard to believe Favre would seriously ponder returning to a bad team when he was part of a very, very good one in Green Bay.
Consider this the first of many stories pondering a return by Favre. Until he comes out and says he's not coming back -- actually validates his retirement -- hopes and/or presumptions that he's not done yet will keep surfacing.

Is there a shortage of news in the NFL that you need to try and not believe Brett Favre? He did say that he is retiring. I am a huge Packer and Favre fan and hate that he called it a career; but he did call it a career. Did we not hear the same thing? If they are paying you by the column, you just got a freebie with your waste of space, waste of an article on the web. Your wife should be a slight bit embarrrased.
Methinks someone has fallen for an April Fool's prank.
AS long as he keeps doing them Wrangler ads, as I do enjoy whatching him so....
COULD HE BE DOING A ROGER CLEMENS????
When a playoff caliber team QB goes down this year, they will make a call to MS to see if they can get the gunslinger to strap it on one more time, if he says "No" then I' know he is really retired, until then the possibilty still reamins of a comeback
What difference does not turning in his retirement papers make? Do you think that once that is done he cannot come back if he changed his mind?
He has 2 years left on his contract @ 10 million per year and you think he is going to decide to unretire and the Packers are going to trade him.. You must be very bored....
Even if Favre was to come back, there is no way that he would go to any other team besides the Packers. He's not going to come back
