NY'ers Who Love Stalking Movie Sets
Got one for you. Btw 19th and 17th streets on 3rd Avenue. No clue what they are shooting (all the people with walkie talkies seemed to have disappeared) but the crew has taken over the street two days in a row now. So I'm sure it's something good (last time it was Leo DiCaprio's movie). Speaking of movies...
If you haven't seen it already, I recommend SHINE A LIGHT. My argument for the film is (partly) based on the 100% guarantee that the following plot lines are non-existent- cheesy love stories, bad jokes, awful special effects, Eddie Murphy and/or Lindsay Lohan, politicians. Ok, I take the last one back. Bill Clinton (of all peeps) does make an appearance.
Essentially the actual movie is nothing more then...
A concert. Just the Stones playing their classics and Director Martin Scorsese capturing it all with a few cameras (17 to be exact). Highlights include hilarious facials compliments of Keith Richards, swah-eet dance moves by Mick and my personal favorite, Buddy Guy killing it on the stage when he joins the guys to perform Champagne & Reefer.
Almost rival to the actual performance itself, the collection of vintage interviews from various stages of the band's career is awesome. They drip with authenticity and avoid the lame cliches. Back then interviews weren't ruined by canned answers and PR training. If the band made controversial comments, they said it and then stuck by it(!) because that was how they felt.
It's definitely worth the 12 bucks and some buttery popcorn next time you are thinking about seeing a flick.
