PIE ALAMODOME
You are looking live...at a blog written by a guy who is looking live courtside from the Final Four.
(This is sooooooooo cool).
I've been to World Series and college football national championships, NBA Finals, Olympics and even the Florabama Mullet Toss in Gulf Shores, Ala. (that's a fish toss, not a hair toss), but I've never been to a Men's Final Four. Very, very exciting.
UCLA and Memphis are warming up about half an hour before game time. A few things you should know:
1) Doneal Mack of Memphis has a sweet 'do going. He has four or five stars circumnavigating his skull. Like Dallas Cowboy stars. That must have taken awhile.
2) While most Bruins are wearing their warm-up jerseys, Darren Collison prefers a nondescript white T-shirt (that will be worth $1,000 on eBay if UCLA wins it all). Lorenzo Mata Real is wearing a "UCLA Final Four" jersey that I believe he bought off a vendor outside the Alamodome. Joey Dorsey of Memphis has a cool warm-up top that says "March is a Brotherhood" on the back.
3) I have yet to spot Matt Leinart, Nick Lachey or their beer bong babes. And by the way, can we let up Leinart about all that? He's single, first of all. The girls may not have been old enough to drink legally, but neither are two-thirds of the women on every college campus. If they were under eighteen, that's one thing. But if you were young and wealthy and single and the sweet sassy molassies found you worth hanging out with, would you be home reading "The World Is Flat" on a Thursday night? Oh, and you know what: This was March. It wasn't during football season. As my mom, who lives half a mile from Leinart's backyard (and, coincidentally, with my dad) wrote, "He should have invited us over. We wouldn't have taken photos."
4) I'm seated right next to the Memphis cheerleaders and band. Currently they are doing an A-1, face-melting, kickass version of "Let The Sun Shine In." Rock and roll, Tigers, rock and roll.
