Warning Track Power: Monday July 14

God Hates The Orioles: The Red Sox beat the Orioles 2-1 in Boston, the 14th straight Sunday loss for the O's. Perhaps the Big Man Upstairs is making my roommate (big O's fan) pay for his sins. Or maybe it was too much Dice-K, who is mastering the art of walking batters but stranding them on base. Personal highlight: in the bottom of the 4th with two out and two on, Manny hit a grounder up the middle that was fielded by Brian Roberts. But Manny had already bellied out on his way to first, possibly expecting the ball to get through the infield. It didn't.

Rays Skeptics Ready To Say 'Told You So': Seven straight L's for Tampa Bay, who've lost the lead in the A.L. East, which, by the by, is probably not as big of a psychological factor as a lot of people will argue. Don't really have a problem with Scott Kazmir calling the team out for lack of focus, but it looks a little silly if you go out the next day and get knocked around by the 12-games-under Indians.

You'd Think It Happened To Him More Often: It's not that Andy Pettitte pitched badly (6 IP, 4 ER, 6K) in a 4-1 loss to Toronto. It's just gotta be frustrating to have Marco Scutaro (1 HR every 56.6 AB for his career) take you deep and watch him start the home run trot as soon as the ball leaves his bat.

Tony La Russa Would Love To Bat Him 8th: It took only until his second N.L. game for C.C. Sabathia to go yard. Some Yankee fans think he's a lock to be in the Bronx next year. But this article says that Sabathia would love to play in the National League because it'll give him a chance to hit. If that's the case, does his price tag go up even more because of his stick?

Bad N.L. West Teams Can't Sniff Mike Pelfrey: And to be fair, no one else can either. At least over his past nine starts. After extending his scoreless innings streak to 16 last night against the Rockies (look out Orel Hershiser), Pelfrey is now 6-0 with a 2.26 ERA and 41 K's to 19 BB since May 31st. And after three more hits including his 15th homer, Carlos Bel-TRAN (Jon Miller is cute, isn't he?) is OPSing .919 over the past month. PS: the Mets are 11-2 since Luis Castillo went on the DL. Warrants mentioning.

Chase Utley Told Us He Carries A Man-Purse: But who cares - Pat Burrell is mashing right now. His game-changing homer yesterday on a slidepiece low and away capped off an awesome first half, with Pat The Bat sitting at 23 dingers, 57 ribbies, and an OPS of .979. Pretty interesting that the #1 (Ryan Howard), #2 (Adam Dunn) and #4 (Burrell) home run hitters in baseball are not All-Stars.

If That's The Case...: So let's get something straight. The Mets pounded Tim Lincecum on Tuesday. Yesterday, Lincecum shut down the Cubbies, the team with the best record in the majors. Must mean that the Mets are the best team in the bigs. Awesome.

The best thing Omar Minaya can do is leave Castillo in the minors until, well until his ridiculous four year deal runs out. Easley and A. Reyes are doing a fine job and they have a second baseman in the minors tearing things up and getting ready to push someone out of a job.
