DAILY DOMER: Ain't No Cure for the Summertime Blog
Greetings from South Bend, where every day is like sun day.
Sunny, clear and beautiful today. 77 degrees. A perfect afternoon unless you happen to be wearing a helmet and shoulder pads, in which case it may be a little warm.
A few quick notes before we kick off...
--Purdue starts ten seniors on offense.
--After three games this year, Notre Dame's front four (Pat Kuntz, Ian Williams, Morrice Richardson and Justin Brown) have a combined 20 tackles. After three games last season, defensive end Trevor Laws had 26 tackles. So there's that.
--The pre-game flyover was performed by U.S. Navy lieutenant John Hiltz, an '02 Notre Dame alum who was also a walk-on basketball player here one season. told a funny story about how he was told he'd made the team just minutes after the Irish lost a preseason exhibition game to Marathon Oil by more than 20 points. The next day, his first day of practice with the team, the coaches set up garbage cans at all four corners of the court (i.e., puke buckets) and had the squad do nothing but run sprints. The Irish would run 304 full-court sprints that afternoon.
Hiltz, fortunately and fairly, was told to stand to the side of the court and watch. He hadn't been dressed out for that loss, after all.
--Notre Dame tight end Will Yeatman is not dressed...I mean, for the game. I'm sure he's wearing clothes of some sort. The Irish will be using two freshmen on their two-deep, Kyle Rudolph and Joseph Fauria. The former wears No. 9, the latter 87 (Fauria is 6-7...you'll notice him).
--Purdue has won the toss and with their kickoff return game, you have to think they've elected to receive.
--You want a prediction? I predict sunburns today (bright rays + a heavily Irish Catholic fan base = burns)
