Jets Assuming Torn ACL
MIAMI GARDENS, Florida - Even before they'd finished celebrating their own season-opening win the New York Jets were well versed in what happened to Tom Brady in New England.
"Everybody I talked to said it's a torn ACL," said one Jets player. "Players AND coaches. When we came in here that's what people were saying, 'Brady's got a torn ACL.' "
The Jets play the Patriots next week in the Meadowlands and the balance of power is significantly altered if Brady is lost for a significant amount of time.
A torn ACL would lead to a significant amount of lost time.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said after the Patriots beat the Chiefs in New England, "I don't have any update on Tom. They're looking at him, doing some tests on him. I don't have any information yet. Not that anybody would be interested in that."
Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss said the play by safety Bernard Pollard that led to the injury was dirty.
"I don't really want to get into it, but me personally, I think it was dirty," Moss said (thanks to Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe and his excellent blog on that get). "Like I said, I didn't really see anything. I was running down the field. When I came back in (and watched it), it looked dirty to me. I've never been a dirty player. I honestly don't even know how to play dirty. I just play the game. Any time you see something like that, that looks foul, it looks dirty, it opens your eyes. So, me personally, it looked dirty."
If Brady has a torn ACL, his season is over. And the play on which Brady was injured looked a lot like the one on which Carson Palmer tore his ACL in the 2005 playoffs. Palmer was iffy at the start of the 2006 season but did make it onto the field. .

I guess beating on a woman isn't dirty either.

Thank you Saint Randy for your 'insight' the human condition.
No Moss, you just rub your dirty *** on the opposition's goal post? Remember? Yeah, you 'member - not character so much as 'a'.
This clown condemning the conduct of ANY other NFL player, nee decent human being? How black is your kettle, Moss?
Wonder what Rodney "I Too Ain't A Dirty Playa" Harrison is thinking? Maybe, what goes around comes 'round? Payback is hell? Oh, the humanity!
Too bad for Brady...likely it was just his turn; effluvium happens.
New England did not play the Dophins were did that story come from

What a bunch of Patriot haters! Brady will be back soon, even if he has to play in a wheelchair. Go jump on the Jets bandwagon. Jealous ones envy. Go Pats
I saw the play, it did not look dirty, but to suffer a season ending injury is a rotten way to start the season, but the list of great players going down in week one is long, example, Vinny T., and so on.. the Pats will do what they do, win.. Go Jets though..
It was an accident. Randy I think just got a little emotional at the possibility of seeing his season go up in smoke.
Cassel did a good job but he can't be the week to week quarterback for this team, I don't think. As stated elsewhere he was in his own building against a weak team. Next week against the revamped Jets won't be so easy. I expect if Brady is indeed done for the year the Patriots will sign someone that may or may not be retired.
Of course, much of the same was said about Brady when he replaced Bledsoe.
Wow, talk about having the dynamic of the AFC changed by one play. Hopefully for his personal sake he'll recover asap and be able to get back to playing.
Brady's injury WILL change the NFL this year. Hate to put that much importance on it, but it's a fact. I hate that it happened, but I don't think it was deliberate, by any stretch of the imagination.
I hate that this happened to Brady, but I don't think it was intentional. It just happened and I DO think it will change the entire NFL....this year.
Brady.... Most overrated QB in history. PLAY INJURED. BTW, Montana reigns supreme!
Pollard was pushed into Brady from behind by another 'Pat'. He would not have hit Brady as hard on his own. It wasn't 'dirty',Mr Moss. Also why wasn't a penalty called when Tony G got hit 'helmet-to-helmet' in the latter part of the game.It looked like a late hit on top of that.
Big Bob,
Get a life. I think the preseason proved what the Patriots would be like with life w/o Brady. Brady is the glue to this offrense and to say he is the "most overrated QB in history" is absolutely ludicris.
Who cares? People are starving to death around the world, dying horribly in wars and natural disasters. Our priorities are sick! A physically endowed and intelligent athlete was injured but got his millions.
I love the Brady hate....
Brady is a good QB but has an attitude about himself that makes him look ugly and the whole team is behind him there, especially the coach...
too bad about an injury like this one, football is a tough game and the hit looked clean also. for the money he makes, suck it up and get back out onto the field Tommy!
It was dirty as f#ck. The mother f#cker crawled his way into Brady's leg. I hope he breaks his neck and can never move a limb again.
Thats what NEW ENGLAND/BRADY and BEL-A-CHEAT
Gets. BEL-A-CHEAT had Brady on the Injury report for years, and nothing was wrong with him. BRADY was on the Injury report for every game last year.
You play with fate, then fate comes back and bites you in the a@@. Now BEL-A-CHEAT can put him on the injury report for a reason now.
CHEATERS !!
Karma is a Bit@# !!
first of all your all just jelous because the patriots are mad good and tom brady is one of the bet qbs in history stop hating on brady yea hes rich so it every other god dam nfl player u fucking idiotsso dont bring that out your all just hating on Brady because hes good
I have an Idea...how about the Jets worry about the Jets instead of salivating at some possibility they might actually be able to beat the Pats.
Funny how Brady went out and the Pats still one...there's more to the Pats than just Brady, yes I recognize that Brady is the end all be all...I saw some other stars out there today.
Hank
Sorry about Brady, but not only was Pollard not playing dirty, it sure looked to me like he was being held, I watched the video many times, and I feel there should have been a flag, but dirty play, NO WAY.
LOl if you think that player was pushed... He had Already been blocked to the ground... and then FROM the Ground.. he made a malicious diving attempt at Brady's legs.. watch the replay again and full screen it ... ur being s0 narrow sighted ...
I doubt that the hit was with an intent to injure, more than any other hit is in football..
Brady started in over a 120 straight games, in football talk, he was on borrowed time.
Brady is a very good QB.. In comparison, he's not Johnny U or Terry Bradshaw.. Montana? I think they're comparable.. Overrated? I think he's been blessed with an excellent defense and last year a few very good receivers..
Was he the sole reason that the Pats won 3 SBs, no.. A major contributor, but not the reason.. He has marginal physical gifts (good arm & slow feet), but has maximized what he has.
Like him or hate him, like the Pats or hate them, the fact that a player has a season ending injury is not reason to celebrate, but it's part of the game.
The true test of an NFL team is if they can overcome injuries, well see...
For a three time superbowl champ Brady went down and is out on a play that didn't look that bad. I'm disappointed that such a small hit took down such a huge player. If he really does have a torn ACL good luck and a quick recovery to him. Even without him the Pats still have a lot of talent and to all you haters out there, don't count them out of the championship race yet. GO PATS.
