Cowboys Dig Hole Deeper, Sign Roy Williams
Urkel's head has to be spinning right now. Not only has his (sniff) quarterback got a broken pinkie, not only has he not gotten fewer touches than a leper, not only is his, T.O.'s spotlight being hijacked to the left and to the right, but now the Cowboys have traded for Roy Williams?
Just what the Cowboys need, another gesticulating "gimme the damn ball" wideout to chirp. Poor Brad Johnson. It's going to feel like Kindercare in that huddle.
Does Williams help the Cowboys out in the short term? As Bill Parcells might say, "HELL, no!"
Are they running a football team down there or collecting talent? While on the topic of Parcells, is it more than coincidence that, since he left, the team's become less disciplined, more "sexy", less consistent, more glamouriffic and less feared?
Replacing Sam Hurd with a semi-high maintenance wideout that costs the Cowboys a first-round pick or more? A guy who you could be just renting for 10 games since he's a free agent at the end of the year?
You just can't make these Cowboys up.

About this blog
Drilling deeply into the mantle layer of America's Passion, NBCSports.com's Tom Curran offers up quick hits and insights on all things NFL.
Looks like you did not do all of your follow-up he is not rented but has a 5 year deal signed as well
I agree, as Charles Barkley would say, this is trbl (terrible). I watched him when they played the Bears a couple of weeks ago, and all of the drops and then the antics after was bush league. Pair him with T.O. and I think you have lots of problems. When Parcells was there, you had the constant fear factor because would cut you at anytime if you really got on his bad side. Wade Phillips is just too laid back for that fear factor to be present.
Eric you are wrong... He will be a free agent. What a terrible franchise. Just tlike the Raiders.
Did you forget where Dallas is geographically? Do you not see what this is about? Obviously defenses are relying on Hurd and Crayton to not be as productive, so they can focus on TO. Double and sometimes triple coverages to prevent TO from being T.O. Bringing in Williams will make defensive coordinators lose it... who do I cover? Then throw Austin, or Crayton plus Witten into the mix and there is no way to cover everybody. This will force defenses to move some doubles to Williams freeing up T.O. to be T.O.
Roy Williams has walked throught he last two seasons with the Lions because he wants out... you have a high powered quarterback, and Williams will make you cry. Roy is coming home to Texas, where he should have gone on draft day! Jerry finally gets one right. Watch and see... even with Johnson as QB you will see better production in the weeks leading to Romo's return. Strategically, this is the best choice, because Williams playing at his best can run loops around Hurd and Crayton. If you think he can no longer muster his best, you never saw him play at Texas. Welcome home Roy! We've been waiting for you! Hook 'Em!
Roy Williams is a very talented receiver, but does a team have room for more than one prima donna? Plaxico Burress left the Steelers because he could not deal with sharing touches with Hines Ward and Antwaan Randle El. T.O. is going to whine incessantly over who should be given the ball more often.
I like that they got him but thwy paid way too much for him. A first, third and sixth round pick next year and a seventh the following year. That;'s way too much for a decent but not great receiver. If they wanted to do that, they should have given away picks this year and moved up. They need a backuo QB much more. Now they don't have pick to get one or to trade next year. Way too much for a receiver.
Yeah right... like oh my gawd T.O. complained! And now Williams is gonna complain too! Ha.
Maybe your scenario works out if the NFL allows another defensive player so teams can double both sides of the field for long balls AND cover Whitten, Felix Jones and Marion Barber. Dream on haters.
I used to think that T.O. complained too much, but Tom "LOSER" Curran is the biggest idiot complainer on the net. I have a hard time remembering a single positive comment from this loser. Let's set the record straight. Roy Williams is just what the doctor ordered for this offense. It doesn't surprise me that Tom Curran would think it is bad, since he obviously is biased to East Coast teams. Tom do your homework "5 YEAR EXTENSION" and pull your head out of your ARSE and smell the roses. Maybe it will help you to have a positive something to say about a sport you know nothing about!
Curran, I hear National Enquirer needs a wanna be sportswriter....
Curran youre an ass clown dick chugger
The reason Cowboys traded for Roy Williams now?Romo out 4 weeks and Johnson needs another target to get the ball to.See what has happened to Romo since first of the year, teams are betting that Crayton/Austin/Whitten will NOT beat them.Barber is a end 2nd and 4th quarter back not a starter.Felix should be their starter and let Barber clean up on the 3rd and 2 or less and goal line for the most part.Let's face it more film teams have on a OC they WILL learn his habits/tendencies and so its up OC Garret to change his game plan via formations/plays and so forth.
Williams was extended for five years, Mr. Know It All. They also knew that one of the reasons Owens is getting double teamed and taken out of games is because Crayton is a #3/slot guy who isn't a deep threat and doesn't command as much attention himself. Williams can get deep and is tall enough and athletic enough to go up and get the ball, which is another thing that is not Crayton's forte'.
When Owens' contract is up, Williams will be 28. He can slide into the #1 spot easily and occupy it for several years barring major injury.
As far as being high maintenance well gee. You're a 1st round pick, you produce and what does your team do? Draft another WR in the first. Refuse to extend his contract. Continue to add schlubs, has beens, never weres and nobodies to a team that continues a long run of futility.
You cretins in the media just love to create controversy where there is none. You choose what to make an issue out of or blow out of proportion and downplay any positives if you so choose. It's not even journalism, it's just tabloid reporting.
After 2 1/2 years you still wait with bated breath for Owens to go off like some super volcano and he hasn't. He says something that hundreds of players have said over the years and it's front page news. Incredible.
Instead of reporting objectively you bash who you want and praise who you want. Sad.
Roy has been a great receiver over the years, but giving up all those picks rarely pays off. U Cowtippers should know, as you sent Herschel I'm-no-Walker away for half a team. That was probably one of the best trades in the history of the NFL. Now if you can get to the promise land, that will be the real test. Nothing else matters if you win. But if you don't win, you gave a ton of picks for just one guy. The average D won't be able to cover both these guys and now you have a number #2 receiver that on many teams would be a #1. Give Curran a break though and don't be homers. The NFL is all about having picks that keep you young and rolling. These types of trades rarely pay off as expected. Again, remember what you did with the picks for Herschel. Trading away as many picks as they did for one dude who can come up lame at any time is very risky. Now go win a Super Bowl and everyone will shut up. You can't win in life without taking risk.
What all of you are forgetting is that Roy Williams wasn't double teamed in Detroit and they had a decent QB in Kitna, what makes you think that he is going to get doubled now. It wasnt a great pick for Dallas but a good one.
I still think they gave up too much for him and regardless of who they have catching passes, if Romo/Johnson don't get better protection (see Arizona Game) it don't matter.
The point most of you are overlooking is that Dallas has been posturing themselves for a deal like this. Dallas has acquired the following picks through various deals:
Third round: 1 acquired from Cleveland in April
Fourth round: 1 acquired from Detroit in April
Fifth round: 1 acquired from Tennessee in Adam Jones trade
Sixth round: 1 acquired in Jason Ferguson trade to Miami
Seventh round: 1 acquired from Detroit on Tuesday as part of Roy Williams deal
Plus, the 6th round pick they used for Roy Williams became available when Adam Jones got suspended (part of the original "Pac Man" deal).
NICE planning, Dallas!
you couldn't be more wrong on this one. He's not a free agent, he's a Cowboy for 5 years. this deal HAD to be made as the Cowboys haven't recovered from the loss of Terry Glenn yet. Now they have. They have a legit offense should the linemen ever decide to play up to their ability. This is a wickedly good team that is waiting for december.
Roy Williams true personality showed when the Lions played the Bears....Thump your chest and point for a 1st down on a 3 yard catch. Pout when you drop 3 balls and then blame the QB.
I will be tuned in to see who goes balistic first, Roy or T.O. over who gets more "catchable balls" thrown their way!
They should have also picked up Chad "Ocho Cinco"....then they would have had the most selfish "3-Stooges" in the league.
Urkel. I thought the same thing. Tom, we owe Urkel an apology. LOL.
They're not the same team they used to be. Not the team that's shown in my Rick Rush Cowboys football print.
THE COWBOYS PULLED THIS DEAL JUST TO GET THE NEGATIVE PACMAN PRESS OFF OF THIER BACKS. 3 PICKS FOR WILLIAMS INCLUDING A NUMBER ONE.DALLAS SHOULD HAVE PICKED UP A CORNERBACK, BECAUSE WHAT YOU ON YOUR ROSTER ARE ROOKIE CORNERS.COWBOYS , WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO OUT SCORE EVERYONE, BECAUSE YOU DEFENSE IS NOT STOPPING ANYONE.BUT, GOOD NEWS, THE OTHER ROY WILLIAMS IS BACK, BUT OH I FORGOT HE CAN'T COVER EITHER. GOOD LUCK BOYS
10-6 MIGHT GET YOU IN, BUT IT WON'T MATTER YOU NEVER WIN IN THE PLAYOFFS ANYWAY. HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!!
williams will help the cowboys win the chamionship
fa all y'all cowboy haters i tell you what y'all need to do go in a corner slit ya wrist and drink you a cold glass of bleach hatin bitches
