Coles Clearly Cool On Favre
Jets wide receiver Laveranues Coles wasn't too psyched when the Jets traded his close friend Chad Pennington to make room for Brett Favre.
And throughout the year he's made passive-aggressive comments about Favre to the media. Nothing overt, always going up to the line but not crossing it. Always careful to leave enough room for plausible deniability if confronted with the notion he's ripping Favre. It seems the source of his ire isn't Favre but the Jets treatment of Pennington. Favre is merely the conduit through which he can make that ire felt.
Now with the Jets and Pennington's new team the Dolphins ready to take on Favre and the Jets this week with the AFC East on the line, Coles is making sure it's clear where his personal allegiance lies when it comes to Brett and Chad.
Acknowledging he spoke to Pennington Tuesday night, Coles was asked th difference between the two men. "They are two different people. That is pretty much it."
Asked how much it must mean to Pennington to have the chance to play the team that sent him packing, Coles said, "That’s a question for Chad. That’s not a question for me. My personal opinion doesn’t matter and I really don’t care to speak about it. That’s a question for Chad."
Asked how he expects Pennington to perform, Coles said, "I don’t know. I expect him to show up. I will tell you that much."
If you think we're making a mountain out of a molehill, here's the backstory. When Pennington was released, Coles went into a shell with the media refusing to speak at all.
In early December, he was speaking with the San Francisco media when he clearly indicatd Favre was getting too much credit for the Jets success at that point. "If you understand the game, you understand that it’s more than just Brett Favre in dealing with this ballclub. Of course, he’s the big name. He’s the (future) Hall of Famer and he’s going to get the majority of the credit. But most of the guys who deserve the credit don’t really get it.”
He made his peace with Favre and the two men - who locker next to each other - have shown no outward animosity. But Coles' sniping continues.

Ok. Who is L. Coles to critisize or beef with Brett Farve? Brett is just doing his job and deserves all the credit if the Jets make the playoffs and critisized if the Jets do not make the playoffs. But L. Coles is just a miserable douchebag full of whines and complaints against a hall of fame QB. Somewhere you will never be L. Coles.
Professional football is a business and Chad Pennigton is chilling bro. I don't hear Chad in Miami bragging on you L. Coles because you are no T.O or Randy Moss. You're just an average receiver who plays no better than a high school wide-out.
When the Jets don't make the playoffs, will L. Coles still say, "it’s more than just Brett Favre in dealing with this ballclub."?
Uh...."Brett is just doing his job"? Damn, I wish I had a job where I can screw up BAD for a quarter of the entire year and still be named one of the employees of the year. Brett finally got his for sticking around too long. He could have walked away a man last year - maybe not on top for his team but on top for him. I personally hope Joey Porter uses his knees for toothpicks Sunday. It's not even about the Jets its about that annoying Wrangler commercial pitchman - he must be put into retirement once and for all.
They jets origianly passed on Dan Marino. And took the imortal Ken obrien. They are the absolute worst in the league at selecting talent. On both sides of the ball. They would pick a guy like Rich Kotite to coach.Rather the Mike singletary.Go figure.Peace
No the 2008 Detroit Lions are the worst team in any sport in history at selecting talent. True Brett should retire but its the coaching staff and organization that blew this not Brett. I mean they should've adjusted ages ago. I mean i doubt if he learned the playbook in time for the season. Brett so much momentum to this team that they should be top contenders but its dudes like Coles that get sour like they're a celebrity and kill the momentum. He next to a hall of fame quarterback in the locker room and he disses him. Thats so ghetto. Whether Brett retires or not dosen't affect me because he respresents a good model for fans compared to the likes of Plaxico Burress, Adam Pacman Jones, Michael Vick, etc...
