Deion 'Knows' Donovan Wants Out Of Philly

TAMPA - Deion Sanders said this morning that he "knows" Donovan McNabb wants to part ways with the Eagles.

Sanders, on duty flapping gums for the NFL Network this week, was asked by Philadelphia Inquirer writer Bob Brookover why he hates Philadelphia.

"I never said I didn’t like Philly," said Sanders. "It’s a beautiful city. What I said about Philly was, 'Donovan McNabb wants to leave.'"

Brookover followed up by asking why McNabb wants to leave.

"Maybe because they booed him on draft day, maybe because they continually doubted him when he took them to four championship hgames. Maybe because no matter what he does its never enough."

Brookover then pointed out that McNabb has said he wants to remain with the Eagles.

"Donovan’s a well-spoken, articulate guy," said Sanders. "He does a great job of presenting himself professionally in front of the media. I’m telling you what I KNOW. Not what I heard. I’m telling you what I KNOW not what I heard."

I then asked Sanders how we could "know" if McNabb didn't personally tell Sanders he wanted to leave.

Deion got irked.

"I’m part of the media too," he said. "You can’t put stuff on me and in my mouth. This is what I do too. You come at me like that. If I was going to say he told me, I’d say he told me. Did I say that?"

So, apparently, McNabb either came to Deion in a dream and told him his wants and needs or Sanders divined this information through telepathy.

Or, McNabb told Sanders and Sanders didn't like being called on how he came into possession of such knowledge.

Either way, if McNabb does indeed want out of Philadelphia, he should probably stop agitating for a contract extension as he's already done. It kinda muddies the waters.

Hey McChunky, don't let the door hit you on your fat azz on the way out of town. As for Deion Sanders, who gives a rats azz what he thinks.

Boof said:

McNabb is an over-rated, over-hyped middle of the road QB. Deion Sanders is a has-been, used to be, middle of the road player. Now he calls himself part of the media? HAHAHAHA......thanks for the laugh you idiot!

Any of you saying Donovan is a middle of the road QB must be an idiot. He keeps on proving you wrong. Funny thing is that any other team other than Philadelphia wants Donovan. Oh, I'm sorry does Philly want Culpepper. Shut it Philly or you'll end up like the Raiders with a 1st round pick QB...

guy? I'm sure you make sense to yourself, but you are simply stupid to think this guy is good. Better go off and catch you bus or you'll be late for your job at McDonalds.

Boof,

Your assesment of Deion Sanders is enough proof that you dont know what the you are talking about. Arguably the best cover corner in history (not too many arguments) and definitely one of the better athletes in league history. McNabb never had a quality receiver and the one year he did.. superbowl. Im not even a fan and that still resonates

Boof said:

Man, I don't care one way or the other about McNabb or Sanders. I just like seeing all you people get your panties in a bunch whenever someone says something bad about one of your beloved sports stars. At the end of the day, neither one has done a damn thing other than play football. That being said, thanks for the laugh, I appreciate it. HAHAHAHA!!!!!

Terry from Maine said:

McNabb is a good to upper middle of the road qb. He made some very poor passes in the NFC championship game that if they had been better would have gone for much more yardage. Instead the receiver had to slow up to make the catch, rather than catch the ball in stride and keep going.

You can's claim to be big time until you win the big one. He never has and he probably won't. Starting over somewhere else? Who knows?

Sanders was a (very skilled) hot-dog while playing, has parlayed that in retirement to the point that he is now paid to shoot his mouth off, and if he can stir up a controversy while doing so, thereby getting more listeners, readers, etc. then he has done his job. As for anything of any real importance coming out of his mouth that is up to the listener.

Donovan you're a good qb. phillly fans are tough. i remmember the day you were drafted even the philly mayor had a comment. You were great at Syracuse. if my memory serves me correct philly wanted ricky williams.
Donovan it takes a whole team to win and also to lose including the coach. Sometimes a change of scenery is good ala Chad Pennington). I'm from new york a (jets fan) I always liked you and felt you got a raw deal. Donovan go for the change of scenery before it's too late. If you move - you will win the BIG GAME. I would love to see you with the JETS. I wouldn't boo - I would be happy and we would win.

Boof is obviously an idiot and a redneck. If Donovan had the weapons the Manning boys and Brady had, he would have 2-3 Super Bowl rings by now and this would be a non-issue.
Boof, you probably won't get a chance to read this as you're on your way over to make out with your cousin, you hick!

I cant wait to see the most overrated quarterback in the league gone from philly. Ill set it on my calender as a personal holiday, taking off from work. A die hard eagles fan who watches every game wants the bum off the team. You know why, because we watch the games, we see the missed passes 20 feet over receivers heads, and watch the passes bounce off the ground and hit receivers in the chest. Statistics are statistics, but statistics dont tell you when the quarterback doesnt see wide open receivers, or passes at receivers feet or behind them making so that they lose their stride and have to make a miraculous catches. It counts as a completion though! A person who watches the game sees it. All the terrible things that mcscrub does with the football when its in his hand, eagles fans see. Highlights on espn dont show you that. The guy stinks, always did, but stats look nice to analysts....

Hey, Maxi Priest...

What weapons did Brady have when he won his Super Bowls? Deon Branch?

Who cares what Deon thinks. The guy is a jerk. Look at what happened when the Bears had to give Hester all that money, because of big mouth Deon.

Brady had a running game. Andy Reid is allergic to the run.

PHILEG said:

jimmyv, if you want Mcnabb gone, I hope you're ready for at least 5 years in the cellar with Kevin Kolb at the helm.

McNabb has his faults, but when he isn't throwing passes in the dirt, his receivers are letting them bounce right off their hands and Andy Reid is dialing up another pass play, letting his backs rot on the bench. Donovan didn't let Larry Fitzgerald score 3 touchdowns in one half. Hmm, wonder what it would be like if McNabb had a weapon like Fitzgerald, who could catch the ball if you threw it ANYWHERE in his general direction. Oh well, we'll keep on keeping on with our world beaters like Kevin Curtis and Greg Lewis. Can you wait to see the Kolb to Curtis combo?

I know I can.

to PHILEG

For one, who knows whether or not whether or not the eagles are going to be in the cellar for at least 5 years with Kevin Kolb.If you watch every game the eagles play, which you obviously dont, you would know that Kevin Kolb has not been givin the chance to show his skill. Hes been a back up to Mcnabb for a couple of years now, so he knows the plays and the style of offense Reid runs. Also when he did get the oppurtunity to play it was one quarter against a baltimore ravens defense which ranks top in the league so dont give me that crap. The man has to get a fair chance.

As far as the receivers go, Mcnabb has had a good receiving core this year with Curtis and desean jackson. Both have tremendous speed and catching ability, just as good as any duo in the league. They may not be the best, but they are decent. aND IF YOU WATCH THE GAMES, you would also know that the way andy reid runs his offense, he runs a 5 or 6 man receiveing core that alternates through the process of the game. So no one receiver will have amazing stats, or shine much more than the other, because no receiver gets significant playing time. Thats why noone knows who the eagles receivers are, for all the highlight film watchers and stat trackers.
Agreed, eagles do not run the ball enough, agreed, andy reid is probably the worst play caller in the league, but that does not justify the fact that mcnabb is an incredibly inaccurate quarterback and makes his receivers look bad because he cant put the ball in the numbers. PERIOD

jimmyv said:

for those of yous who watch highlights from the game on espn, and check stats, or just listen the espn analyst who suck mcscrubs ass, I am going to list some of mcnabbs terrible features and good features

good features:
1.has a strong arm 2. has a good ability to avoid pressure normally and scramble for a 1st or scramble to extend a play.
BAD features:
1. holds the ball carelessly far from his body when in the pocket every time he gets sacked its a possible fumble everytime. (which is extremely frustaring as a fan)
2. Has no touch on short passes, passes where he has to lead receivers. The guy is just an extremely inaccurate quarterback
3. Narrowsighted when looking for an open receivers. It happens all the time, the man hardly ever finds the open receiver on the field.
Please move ur ass to chicago mcscrub because if i see that smile he makes, after every time he messes up im gonna go nuts

If you are not an eagles fan from the philadelphia area you should even be allowed to comment on this unless you are saying what a fairy deion is...the majority of eagles fans do not want donovan to go...DO NOT want him to go....70 percent of the fan base knows whats best for this team even if it hurts to still not have a ring...the other 30 percent, which includes practically every sports writer in town makes up the unsilent, loudmouth minority...just because the media plays up the hype does not mean thats the situation...again if you are not from the philadelphia area you literally have no idea what you are talking about on this one donovan leaving will be a crushing blow to this team

Larry said:

First of all McNabb is a good qb, not great, but good. His stregths are ability to throw long, extend plays with his feet, and ability to run (when he wants to). His drawbacks are accuracy, and by accuracy I don't mean the freakin completion percentage. I mean hitting the reciever in stride, which is the most important element of the west coast offense. McNabb should not be running the west coast. He is in the wrong system. He seems by all appearances to be a very classy morally good role model, except for ONE thing. A few fans booed his selection of draft day, and he can't let it go! He actually won many of them over quickly with his play, but he just lost them again by constantly bringing up the past like a girl. Say what you want about his statistics, but statistics are for losers. He is a good qb, and that is all. He has the ability to get them as far as he has, but he has NEVER taken the leadership role in big games and taken them to the big game. His record in the NFC Championship games speaks volumes, and his play in them has been much worse than his play during those respective years.

Boof said:

Hey Maxi Pad, I'm from Allentown, PA, so your redneck comment is useless. Second, you're obvious lack of intelligence shows that you are probably a New England/Boston bandwagoner.

Poop McGoop, nice try on the insult, but this is 2009 man, be a bit more original, ok?

Loudmouths are hardly a minority for Philthadelphia fans...good one. McNabb or no McNabb...won't make much of a difference!

Bill said:

jimmyv: An outsider's perspective...

There is a reason why when the Eagles let go of receivers, no one else picks them up. DeSean Jackson is probably the best option they have, and he's a rookie whose best hope is to turn into Steve Smith - but he doesn't appear to have his vertical range, which is one of the things that makes Smith so dangerous, despite his size. I'm aware that Reid enjoys spreading the ball around, but aside from Jackson, those guys would all be average at best, no matter what team he is on, no matter what quarterback is throwing him the ball.

I'm not an Eagles fan, but I do live in the area and I do watch the games. McNabb is not a perfect quarterback, and his accuracy leaves much to be desired, but it takes a team to win a championship. Donovan McNabb is hardly the Eagles only weakness, much less their biggest. If your coach is going to throw the ball constantly, the QB is going to need better options. I have a feeling even Peyton Manning wouldn't have gotten his ring given McNabb's "weapons"

Harold of the Rocks said:

Hey Boof - I'm from Easton PA and there's plenty of rednecks in the ABE area. I'm not calling you a redneck, but don't try to say our shared piece of heaven known as the Lehigh Valley isn't redneck free. I wish that were true.

Anyway.... I agree with all those who claim that the majority of Eagles fans want a 2009 season that includes McNabb. All my friends are Eagles fans and to a man, none want him gone. Call it fear of Kevin Kolb or fear of the unknown.

There's no doubt that if receivers had hands that grew out of their ankles, the Eagles would have won the last 10 Super Bowls. McNabb does have accuracy problems. A 1-3 NFC Championship game record isn't much to brag about either. But without him, the Eagles wouldn't have gone to any of those NFC Championships.

I'm down for another year of McNabb. Remember, DeSean Jackson is a rookie and showed great promise in the second half of the season. If DeSean get's Fiztgerald-esque next year, we stand a very good chance at having another opportunity to blow the NFC Championship game in 2009. :)

Mcnabb needs to go to Tampa Bay. Nuff said. Not really. We'd be glad to have him... because we have no better option. To much of a risk to try an undeveloped QB, but if Philli gives him to us they'll just inherit our problems so I don't think if i was a Philli fan I would want to trade him. Had to rebound and talk about the Eagles being this is about them.lol

Out of the 31 or 32 teams in the NFL about 25 of them would dump their QB today for McNabb.

Philly fans need to start appreciating him.

You know, after watching McNabb and Reid combo for awhile now, it really comes down to this:

1. McNabb needs to be in better shape. It always seems like he looks like he is about to pass out in the big games in the 3rd and 4th quarter. Look at how shedding the pounds did for Kurt Warner.

2. McNabb, don't be scared to run the ball, God knows Andy Reid isn't going to do it. Get yards, thats what matters. Better to have 3rd and 3 versus 3 and 10. If the pass is there, take it, but don't camp in the pocket.

3. McNabb, get the passes to the receivers numbers or in stride. throwing grounders just kills momentum.

4. Reid, please give him someone to throw to. The current guys are decent, but, having a true threat helps draw coverage there, and if the other guys can now do a decent job of catching balls, imagine what they can do when the coverage is directed towards the star wide out.

6. Reid, run the ball when it not so obivous, not when you are trying to run the clock out.

7. Reid, get a real big running back. Westbrook is not made to move the pile.
