COWBOYS PICK UP KITNA FOR HENRY

Two days after cutting veteran Brad Johnson and one day after watching Brooks Bollinger become a free agent, the Dallas Cowboys have addressed their needs at the quarterback position by swinging a deal for Jon Kitna of the Lions.

The Cowboys announced the move moments ago.

Kitna, a 12-year veteran, landed on injured reserve during the 2008 season under circumstances suggesting that he really didn't have a season-ending injury.  The fact that the Lions got anything in exchange for Kitna is a positive, given that they undoubtedly would have cut him at some point.

In return, the Cowboys have given up starting cornerback Anthony Henry, who started all 16 games in 2008.

Both players are in the last years of their deals.  Kitna is due to earn a base salary of $1.95 million, and Henry will receive a base salary of $2.6 million.

As an Eagle fan, I also thought it was a joke that the Cowboys never gave a crap about a good backup QB. Well they finally got one today....Good job Jerry...I give you an A+ on this acquisition. He may now be the best backup QB in the NFL.

This will address the Cowboys needs at QB?? Not hardly.

And can we do something else but swing deals and land on IRs? Maybe swing to IR and land on a deal??

Stupid is as Jerry does said:

Wow, a young starting CB traded away for an average old back up QB... on a team with major issues with their secondary.

Brilliant move, Jerrah. Brilliant.

There is nothing young about Anthony Henry, and my guess is that he would not have played much for the Cowboys next year anyhow, given the presence of three young and developing CBs, those being Mike Jenkins, Orlando Scandrick, and Alan Ball.

Getting Kitna is an upgrade at the backup quarterback position over Brad Johnson, who along with Brooks Bollinger was dreadful this past season when Tony Romo got hurt.

Kitna will be the starter by Week 3.

Got to love that Detroit to Dallas connection. Way to build your team from the ashes of the League's only 0-16 team, Jerry! The only question left unanswered is does Kitna faint in the shower?

Anthony Henry is a grandpa amongst starting corners. The Cowboys wanted to move him to free safety. However, Henry publicly stated that he would be reluctant to make such a move, rendering him disposable.

Kitna will bring leadership and credibility to the backup QB position in Dallas, ehm... I mean, Arlington.

Ahh John Kitna. A good backup but as a starter I've always said he's just good enough to disappoint you.

This may SEEM off the wall but..... I agree with Vox. We could go as far as a QB Competition in training camp? I believe Kitna has the intangibles that Romo lacks and would even be an upgrade for the Boys.

Forgive my bluntness, but the idea that the Cowboys would bench their $70 million Pro Bowl caliber quarterback in Tony Romo for a 36-year-old retread is, at best, asinine. There's nothing one can say to make me for one believe that the Cowboys' acquisition of Kitna poses a threat to Romo's spot as the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.

$70 mil...Jerrah paid WAY TOO MUCH for a VERY AVERAGE QB..BOTTOM LINE!

36 year old retread? What do you call Kurt Warner...or did you even watch the Super Bowl?

If, and only if, it came down to a QB competition in training camp Kitna would blow Romo off the field. But...we both know that's not going to happen.

Romo was ONLY decent when the Tuna was coaching Dallas. "Cupcake" Phillips will NEVER get the kind of production from Romo that is essential for the Cowboys to go deep in the playoffs.

If Romo gets hurt.... Kita can lead this team in the direction it needs to go. He is a REAL leader!

44-6* meets owen 16.

that's a lot of stank to go around. the only way it would be stankier is if pullpecker went to dallas instead of kitna.
