YES, THIS IS PFT . . . SORT OF
Please do not be alarmed. Your eyes are not deceiving you. ProFootballTalk.com has neither been sold to nor hijacked by NBC.
To put it bluntly and simply the intense demand from the first day of the 2009 league year overwhelmed our capacity.
At one point, we tried to point the PFT domain name to the blog created by SportingNews.com for the free-agency rush: profootballtalk.sportingnews.com. And the load instantly blew out five servers.
So NBC has rescued us, and for that we are incredibly grateful.
It's a temporary fix. We're working round-the-clock to come up with a configuration that will withstand the unprecedented traffic. In the interim, we'll continue to post dozens of stories every day.
Thanks for bearing with us, and thanks to NBC for giving PFT Planet a place to hang out. Now, please, try not to break anything.
And to those of you who found this page via navigation of MSNBC.com or NBCSports.com, this is the place to get all of the latest news, rumors, and analysis regarding the launch of the NFL's annual free-agent shopping spree.

Florio, simply the man! We'll follow you anywhere!
the bengals websit is reporting that ryan fitzpatrick has signd with buffalo. come on pft keep up hahaha
How 3rd world of you.
Have some foresight and get it right.
How low brow....Now fix it already.
I'm really starting to get confused.
How bout some Keith Olbermann/ Matt Millen jokes now.
God, I hate you. You are the bane of my existence, Mike Florio. Get. Your. F-ing. Website fixed already!
If you had gone to HBO for help, you could use curse words...,
Almost impossible to find all day...the redirect from PFT didn't take til after five...who said blogging was easy?
I hope Florio Jr. enjoys working in the coal mines....
I could have been a contender - instead I went cheap and now my website's good name has been ruined. 5 years from now I will wish I had thrown a couple of $$ at this before problems came up.
Now all the momentum from all those years of hard work has gone to waste.
Yours Truly - Florio
"We ask that you please bear with us during this difficult time."
"Bear WITH YOU!?!?!?"
This is a PFT blog, people are supposed to get their NFL breaking news here! You've got hookers turning tricks on my favorite website, don't you Florio?
Really, thank you for doing what you do. Incomparable work as usual.
What is this? WDFN web style...
Don't sweat the small stuff Florio. You are still there. You are still a contender, and the best source of NFL news as far as I am concerned. We got your back Florio, and Florio Jr.'s college fund.
How funny, people raggin on Mike for this, if anything this is the pest publicity for everyone obviously. The site has blown up so big that nbc is picking up the blog just for the hits. So its excellent marketing for everyone involved. Plus if anyone would like to give me a website that is better for the most up to date info on the goings on of the nfl let me know because pft kills it.
And there is no sign of CFT anywhere. Redheaded stepchild syndrome.
It's not Florio's fault all of us are football starved losers who do nothing but hit F5 all day and blow up servers. poor guys working on the stuff are exhausted trying to keep up.
Not to mention Flori's still out there turning stories unlike some other douchebags. Keep up the good work.
So what was the post count up to? You could say you posted 350 articles, and no one would know for sure.
I know this is pathetic, but I gave up PFT for Lent! My dad called me and told me that PFT was down and was being supported by nbc.com. I just knew this was a sign from above. I logged on through nbc.
Gotta love it when the Lord throws you a loophole!
Sorry to give you up for Lent Florio but I had to give up the one thing that I would have a hard time living without.
i'm pretty sure he isn't but way to show your vocab arsenal dood, considering he'll forget more about the nfl than you'll ever know
Florio, we can't take you anywhere. You just go and break things. Man, I hope NBC's insurance is up-to-date.
Florio, who at NBC do we send our 'Thank You' to? We are very grateful that they picked you up when you needed it, Hooray for NBC!
Mike,
So, does NBC have you by the short&curlies now?
They are gonna want payback for this.
No more making fun of Madden?
i'm with u money micah. free site, easily the best one around and people hate on Florio for it.Dumb. just plain dumb
dood, come on out and say it. You're Mike Silver, right?
This is awesome, Florio, I've been following everyway possible, and I think it is distinctly possible you just crashed twitter for a little bit. I just clicked over and got the message: "too many tweets!" If so, congratu-freakin-lations
Florio, you guys obviously kick-ass with the news fans want. And is there any doubt of the NFL's popularity right now? ...we crashed another website - in the 'off-season'!!..............
HEY EVERYBODY.
LiveNBreath(e)Football FINALLY SPELLED
HIS NAME RIGHT. GOOD FOR YOU DUMMY.
Florio has to let my comments on here for the meantime!
Thank god! I know I dont post BS comments that often, but some of them are gems!
I know there has to be more news... Your not calling it a night are you Mike...
florio,
good job on the backup plan, but you screwed us over with collegefootball talk, whenever we go the site we got some annoying ad that has some loud video and the site wont load, you need to remove those annoying popups/ flash pages.
So we blowed up your site? Will the hamster get a funeral?
Thank you NBC for giving Mikey this temporary home so we can keep up with the scoops.
Although, I will say that I have recommended pft to three or so friends over the last week and if they have tried to log in, you have lost their readership.
Mike looking at the photos/contributors to the right side of the new page, we know who should be the face of PFT, regardless of what website you are on.
Wow.. sad that some many American Sheeps follow his site to begin with. I used to all the time but over the last couple of years he is just an extension of the newspaper or other online football sites. Back in the day his site was great with "insider" info but those days are long gone.
Thought I was done with his boring site and now it appears on NBC, yuck.
Coming from an software engineer, your tech guy must be an idiot. You aren't streaming video, no tech requiring high processing power, just hits. Lots of hits, no doubt, but it is a very singular issue. you need a new tech guy, because this is a simple problem that has been solved many times over.
YOU HAVE SOLD YOUR SOUL TO THE DEVIL ................ THIS SITE IS NOT MAC FRIENDLY
@Ragga - Agreed. unviewable on iphone. Way to be standards compliant NBC.
Florio - look into Mosso or the Amazon Cloud. Very scalable hosting.
Guys, we seriously need to give Florio a break, and thank both Sporting News and NBC for giving him the helping hand. They had absolutely no obligation to help him out, at all, yet they both pulled together their resources to cover him. Remember, he built his little website from absolute scratch, so I don't see this as a time to start giving him crap over the situation. It's a pretty monumental situation, when your "hobby" becomes so big that the electronics cannot physically handle it.
I guess this means we need to stop buying his book, so he can't pay for the new servers, right Florio?
It's no problem, Florio. Maybe it's time for some better sponsors, though...obviously those flabby stomach ads weren't paying enough.
Oh, and JimmySmith, spyboots, Pats suck, and the rest of the haters are a bunch of r-tards and f-ggots. You hear Tom Brady will be back and fine in 09? Get ready for your teams to get slapped around by the Big Mean Patriots.
Knight Rider sucks
Florio, your servers are like the Cowboys of the last 10 years. We keep being told that they are better, but then they get worse. Your servers did not show up on the biggest day just as the Cwboys did not show up when a playoff berth was at stake. 44-6. Hopefully, your server does not faint in the shower.
Howard Eskin said that this is why your blog sucks.
I am thankful for NBC helping out. This could be a band-aid, but it's nice to have it back up. Yeah, I missed my dose of PFT!
Holy Crap!!!!!
What happend too PFT?!
Also you need a better-looking Web site. Yours is straight out of 1998. Hire me.
Mike, please don't sell out. I woke up this morning (in Alaska so your day's almost over) and was redirected to the NBC version of PFT. I was thrilled for you that you found a way to still be there. As others have stated, we're football starved out here and especially this time of year. But as I scrolled through the site I got a sick feeling in my stomach. Here's the scenario...
Once there was a small-time internet hack who had this amazing ability to sniff out football rumors and remarkably got it right a lot. He kept at it relentlessly, much to the chagrin of the "real" media. His fan base grew, people followed him everywhere. Then one year at a time when football fans are going crazy for any news of their favorite team or favorite player the need for this "small-time" internet hack was so great no one could forsee what would happen. Servers all over the world started smoking and going up in flames. And he had to find help. In come the "big guys". Swooping down out of the sky came a recognizable name to save the day. They figured it would make a great human interest story that they helped "a little guy" out. But then they started to research a little. And realized this "little guy" wasn't so little. He had quite a following. So much so that NASA had to shut down to try to solve the server problem. Well, the big guys can't let a little guy have that much of a slice. So they make an offer. A very phat offer. An offer so big not even a lawyer in West Virginia with a humble background and common sense could say no. And so, PFT goes corporate. But then they start putting stipulations and regulations and restrictions on what can and can't be said. "We can't offend the sponsors." And before too long PFT is not the beloved site of millions, it's another vanilla football site that so-called "fans" go to cuz it's flashy.
I'm sure this couldn't possibly happen. But for what it's worth, from one PFT crazed addicted Mike Florio fan...please don't sell out.
Found a couple of hamsters at NBC Florio? Trade in the VW bus for a couple of transistors, OK?
The animated ads are programmed to cause a delay in loading content - first loading the ad and then a few seconds for the visitor to read the ad. Apparently, these ads were initiated at the same time PFT experienced a dramatic increase in traffic. Thus the foregoing delays 'cascaded'. And consequently - grid lock.
yeah yeah yeah Florio...
I am sure you have TOP MEN working on it.
The old site is going to end up in a box in a gummint warehouse.
man, what a bargain for NBC. Hate to say it, but after all the traffic this is going to get, they would be crazy not to offer you $2M/year while sharing with Sporting News. You are putting the tweeds pictured in the upper-right corner to shame. Keep up the great work.
I never realized how much I went to Florio's site until it went down. Florio, you are the man. By far my favorite football reporter!
Thanks for all the hard work, looking forward to getting your site back up and running!
