Teams lining up to stay away from Owens

So I was just completing a list of possible teams that could show interest for the main site.  Teams that make sense on paper if they can ignore the fact that T.O. is, you know, bonkers.

As I'm writing it, the reports start flowing in from around the country of teams that can't wait to leak how uninterested they are in Owens.   The Giants and Jets want no part of him, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.  Chris Mortensen said on Sportscenter the Redskins won't show interest, which is a huge blow to Owens' market value.

Mort also said that the Vikings and Ravens don't want Owens because their head coaches both saw the diva's divisiveness up close in Philly.  San Francisco is also unlikely to want a reunion.

Like Tom wrote, it's going to be very difficult for Owens to find a job anytime soon.  Oakland is the one landing spot that makes sense to me.  Al Davis is crazy enough to do it, and he's not afraid to spend.

While it's a fun exercise to speculate where Owens might fit, the reality is that he might not find a job for a long while.  T.O. may have to accept a low-cost one-year deal to play for a non-Raider team or wait for a training camp injury to strike.

If nothing else, perhaps a long wait on the open market could serve Owens a large slice of humble pie.

I have been a fan of T O and his talent since the Philly days..my team the Eagles.
I think a lot of the things he said about Donovan was true.
T.O. just keep a lid on it and use your talents that God gave you. You are a great wide receiver. I wish you luck.

Sixburgh said:

They had a thing going in Philly, I agree he is agood reciever, maybe even Hall of Fame material. But, even if what he said about McNabb was true, he should still shut up and play. You can't tell me you didn't get tired of that circus.

The Buffalo Bills need TO...just so people will watch the team...heck...maybe they'll make it to Monday Night Football!

This is a great example of how the media, especially ESPN, has used their influence to turn a man into a villan. I am in Dallas and he was not anything close to how bad the media has protrayed him. There are other players who are vocal who don't get the kind of scrutiny that he got. He will land someplace, and hopefully they will appreciate him.

T.O. was done when R.W. reported.

Raiders would be the only team that would actually sign him - and, as soon as he started complaining about not getting enough attention, release him.

T.O. needs to choose his battles, and, more importantly, where he fights them. At his rate, he'll NEVER see the HOF.

Character counts - so shut up and fake the funk!

Geoff said:

I hope that the Ravens do not go out and get TO. They tried to do that once and were snubbed by him when they did have him. He does have HOF numbers but one of the criteria I believe is character to get into the HOF. He has all the skills. This might be good for him to not find a team and get his childish act together.

Jason said:

Can you imagine him in New England with Brady and Moss. That would be a scary trio.

Jay said:

I think TO needs to be in a locker room with some personalities that can keep him in check the way that the Bulls and Michael Jordan did to Dennis Rodman. The tow teams that could possibly do it and at the same time be beneficial for TO is New England and Indy. Both teams have strong willed QB's that have the respect of their team and the football community and TO, if in check could help these teams reach the superbowl, as long as he realizes he is not the main reason they get there but that one piece that can help give them that edge!

Patrick said:

T.O. is a player who WANTS to win, and how many of those are there? Moss was a "character problem" too until he had someone good to throw for him. I agree with Jay, Indy or New England with a Hall of Famer at quarterback who wants to win as bad as him (unlike Romo and McNabb), and kiss the opposition goodbye.

there's always dancing with the stars

TO might see his value dip even further if the Rams release Holt. Lets see, a younger player who had more receptions and yards over the same 10 year period and who has never been a locker room problem, or TO... gosh thats a tough one.

Wana bet Al Davis is salivating about now

Hey George in Dallas.

I'm in the DFW area also. I can hardly believe your assessment of the media turning a saint like T.O. into a villain. Have you really kept up with this man's history, or were you kidnapped, locked in a closet for the last decade and finally broke out? Incredible insight you have on the monsters of the media, killing perfectly normal human beings whose state of mental health is just fine.

It's just like the evil media to show T.O. screaming like a madman after a loss, then overplay his locker room busting behavior, gathering fellow whiny receivers saying there is a plot by Romo and Witten to steal all the thunder, just because Witten happens to be open more often.

No, that silly stuff did NOT send the Cowboys in a downward spiral, costing them a playoff spot. Nope, it was ALL overplayed by the massive evil empire of the media.

Joe said:

George is right, and he most certainly did not call Owens a saint. Stop using sarcasm to belittle the man's opinion.

Yeah, it IS overplayed. That's what the media does with every situation involving Owens. Remember the Jessica Simpson comments he made? ESPN jumped all over it, only to find out the comments were made as a joke. Remember after the Cincinnati game with Owens catching two passes, and the media called him out for being in a foul mood after? His grandmother died.

This is the picture the media painted: Terrell Owens is a cancer, get rid of him and you become a better football team! Ha, that would be great if the suckers in Dallas are believing that! Romo isn't a proven star yet, and Jerry Jones took away his biggest weapon. Owens was a big reason why Crayton and Austin were able to get single coverage. Will Roy Williams be able to have the same impact on the game without catching the ball? Ha! Roy Williams is a whiner and just a big a diva as Owens was. Not to mention the fact that the Cowboy offense will look exactly the same as last year. Marion Barber has a low ypc average, and is going to start wearing down soon because he is not an every down back. Better hope Felix Jones can stay healthy, and not pull a hamstring and miss the rest of the year. Romo fumbles and throws a pick every game. The offensive line regressed from 07. And I haven't even started talking about the defense and special teams yet! Owens didn't allow those two consecutive rushing touchdowns against the Ravens. Owens wasn't the only one who mailed in a pathetic performance against Philadelphia. Just saying :)

But this will be beautiful to watch. The Cowboys, ridden of the distractions and locker room cancer that has plagued the team for three years, will win the superbowl. That's funny. Maybe if the media spent more time teaching their fans about football instead of printing gossip like tmz, more people would have a better understanding about what Dallas REALLY needs to do to improve. How about a corner that doesn't get burned? How about a better tackling team? How about one that doesn't commit 10 penalties a game, or a team that doesn't choke every single time in December. I hope it feels good blaming a wide receiver for your failures. Ahhh, can't wait to watch Dallas and their fans fail again!

TO doesn't care about his team winning. He only cares about is himself. If he plays bad, its everyone else's fault. He will ruin any team who signs him.

My advice to T.O - Retire, walk away, leave, get lost. You have burned to many bridges and it all could have been avoided if you would have just practiced your Narcissism in the privacy of your own home. Are you stupid, why bite the hand that feeds you, you are a receiver, Calling out your quarterback is the fastest way to become just a route runner despite your playmaking skills. I like T.O but not for his talents but rather, for his volatility and pandemonium, any team he ends up with will be just be another Niners, Eagles, Cowboys catastrophe. It is nice to see that teams have realized this and have avoided him like the Plague that he is. I hope the Giants, Redskins, or Patriots pick him up so I can enjoy the fireworks as he does his best to destroy them as well. Brady, Moss, and Owens on the same team? What a pissing contest that would be. Too funny!

TO is a sucker. how does he manage to take everything good and turn it to sh.. i hope he retires. the guy has no class.

Terrell Owens is a great receiver, a six time pro-bowler, and a future hall-of-famer. some of you keep talking about the teams that should reject t.o. those sorry, pathetic, pitiful teams should be elated to have a hardworking, funloving, attention loving, very talented player with that great body (in a catsuit) Obviously, you did not listen to the steve young interview on espn. the great steve young, who has more superbowl rings than donovan, garcia, and romo combined, had nothing but praise for t.o. young said that owens was the only player on the team who had the guts to challenge the great jerry rice's workout
