Favre Doing Due Diligence On Arm
Well, it's certainly more than a "lemme sling it around with the kids at the high school and see how I feel" deal for Brett Favre.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Ed Werder report tonight that Favre consulted with famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews about his right shoulder/biceps this week.
It shows that Favre, who has tested his arm publicly at least twice by throwing to local high school kids in Mississippi wants to find out for sure that - short of having surgery - his arm can't withstand the rigors of an NFL season.
Meanwhile, it's May. Whatever rehab work Favre could do to get himself ready to play for the Vikings would need to be started in earnest pretty soon so that he could be a training camp participant. And even then, how well would the 39-year-old's arm hold up?
At some point, the bus for the Vikings season has to pull out of the station, doesn't it?

Favre4ever - he's the best. Let him play!!!!
Stop it already. Legend is turning into loser right before our eyes - he's been playing "I'll get back at you" games for the Packers since his "I'm not sure I'll retire" games made them tired of him. Two to one interception to touchdown ratio in the last quarter of 2008? Still "slingin" despite knowing that his arm was suspect? Not sure he was ever the team player we thought he was (remember the long, drawn-out vicodin incident), and he isn't proving any differently now. You're done, Brett - now go away and salvage a little of your reputation before we all hate you for your blatant selfishness and indifference.

Time to dispose of the number 4 Green Bay jersey. Regardless of whether or not Packer management intended to force Favre out, he had absolute control over his fate. He can whine and complain and preach to the media that he is the victim in this whole cherade, but in fact, he's brought it all onto himself. At the time of his first retirement I felt Favre had done it right and that he would have been treated like a God in Titletown, but now he'll be fortunate enough if he gets invited back. It's a shame.
Maybe the guy just loves to play football? Maybe he doesn't worry about his reputation as much as he loves to play football. Everyone loves to build people up just to tear them down. Does Curran ever write an article from the players perspective? Curran is a bottom feeder that generates ratings by ripping the most prominent players...McNabb, Favre...
I don't think Tom is really ripping Farve, I think he is more ripping the Vikings. And he should be Tavaris Jackson was a 2nd round pick and they just traded a 4th round pick for Sage Rosenfels and then gave him a 2 year 9 million dollar extension. They aren't exactly backing either of these guys trying to get Farve now are they? And that isn't Farve's fault.
But if Farve just loves football and wants to play then why does he keep saying he is retired? I wouldn't be at all annoyed with Farve if he was just hanging on and trying it with different teams, even if it was out of revenge, as long as he made his intentions known.
It is just a game.....If he wants to play and a team will let him play for them why not?
If he plays for the Crykings, only two things will happen, both bad for Brett: he'll never finish the season, and he can forget the glory years in Titletown. He won't be welcome anytime soon.
I believe Favre should stay with the Jets and try to win them a Superbowl. It would be wrong of him to go to the Vikings after the Jets treated him so exceptionally well. As far as the Packers are concerned that is in the past and this is not. Favre should go on and put that behind him. No good comes out of revenge.
If someone offered any of us armchair QBs $9 million and the spotlight to come back and play our favorite game, to be a part of a team again, could any of us turn it down? Any answer other than 'no' isn't believeable. I'm facing mandatory retirement as a cop, and it's tough to walk away from your crew and your working life when your brain and body say you can still do what you love. Give the guy a break - - the market will stop offering him money when his skills aren't worth paying for. Apparently Favre's skills are still worth some serious scratch, and the guy loves being a competitor, so instead of bashing the Kilnbilly, go find a career you love where the skills are perishable, give it your all, and then see how you feel when you're near the end of your prime. Pride, being a gamer, being deep into the rush of the work - - if you haven't tasted those aspects of life then you can't speak to this.
I lost all respect for Brett Farve when he was so wishy washy cry babby Brett over thoughts of retiring. He screwed around with Green Bay enough that they decided to move on without him and as a Jet he was all about me me me. He was NOT a Team player and real JETS Fans don't want him back. Good riddance I say.It was a typical dumb move by the Jets Ownership to think he was a quick answer anyway. Teams would be better off looking at Michael Vick the dog molester. Sorry Brett, but you won't be missed!
Several of my friends are artists who have done portraits of Brett Farve using Lego.
There might be some symbolism there.
Anyway, I just hated losing Farve.
His retirement was mushy, yes. But, so was Bob Cousy's.
If I had to retire from Lego, I'd cry too.
So I guess you people saying Favre should be allowed to play as long as he wants should be happy he's decided retired, right?
I mean, because he is. Retired. Again. Like he was last year before free agency and the draft.
Of course then he decided to come back. Kind of sucked for the Packers because they had executed an entire offseason assuming he was gone, when he really just didn't want to hang out with kids and do push ups.
But now he's retired again. And it's good that he held the Jets hostage for his release, because he probably just wants to officially retire as a Packer.
a lot of the hype, past and present has been skewed and hyped by writers and the media. Brett is still better than most of the starting QB's in the NFL. Instead of asking all the armchair QB's, I'd like to hear a reporter ask Dan Marino or John Elway their opinion. people thought Elway should retire, just before he won 2 superbowls. Would Marino have played 1 more season if he thought the team was poised to make a run at the superbowl? If he plays, what kind of season record would it take to shut people up? a winning record? a playoff game? what if he made it to the superbowl and lost? would the armchair QB's say "I told you he couldn't do it"
