Favre fatigue setting in amidst conflicting reports

Thumbnail image for nfl_favre1.jpg
So I've tried to stay away from the latest Favre drama as much as humanly possible, at least for a football writer.  Let's review what we know after Monday's predictably conflicting reports (He's getting surgery this week!  Wait, no actually he's not.

1. Favre is playing if his body allows him.  He's exploring all non-surgical options regarding his injured shoulder/biceps, but is reportedly getting frustrated by the lack of progress.  Ed Werder's source (whose name probably rhymes with Rhett Vavre) says the shoulder problem must be overcome "soon" or Favre will abandon efforts to come back. Until he changes his mind.

2. The Vikings appear to have no desire to go into the season with only Sagvaris Jacksenfels as their starting quarterback and will give Favre as much time as he needs to make the decision.  If Favre's body is willing, he's going to be their quarterback.  It doesn't seem to matter how long he drags this thing out.

3. It is very dangerous to trust any breaking report out of Minnesota regarding Favre.  They are now 0-for-2.

The Vikings are not controlling this media circus, so it's better to focus on the national Brett Favre Friends: Ed Werder, Chris Mortensen, and Jay Glazer, who will probably only pop up once we have a final answer.  He's the smart one.

he finally got what every veteran wants, to be a free agent and chose the team you want to play for and pursue it.

Brett Farve needs attention. If you are going to retire just retire. You are such the side show. Your back and forth is so un professional. You seam like a kid who cant make up his mind. You are not the one anymore anyway and the vikings will find that out. I would rather go with Mike Vick. At least he is telling you all he wants to play.....Man. Enough

Brett Favre is not the one who brings this up every year. The media, including MSNBC, does that.

Favre did not release a report about arm surgery. Favre did not release a report about rehabbing.

In fact, I don't recall Brett Favre releasing any information, other than to answer questions from the media.

If the media didn't make up stories and rumors, this wouldn't have legs.

Give it a rest, please.

I think it's more that fans and the media need Brett Favre, than it is Brett needs attention. He's not the one who leaks and reports all this nonsense weekly. He probably just laughs when some new report surfaces, and he knows nothing about it. Then to top it off there are haters like anonymous who start making Brett the bad guy. Mike Vick the inmate over the winningest QB in history. Favre threw six td's in one game against the NFC champs last fall. How many did Vick throw last fall?.... oh you don't have stats from the from the prison league? bummer.... do you know how idiotic you sound when you say Vick over Favre?

My grandfather used to say..."If you don't have anything nice to say about someone, shut the _ _ _ _ up."
Let the guy be, if he wants to come back so be it, if he wants to stay retired so be it...his choice....either way...it doesn't seem to be him making all of the fuss...it seems to be the media giving their personal opinions about whether or not THEY think he should retire. I thought a reporter was to simply report the facts, not give opinions...have a missed something here?

Come on; quit giving the best quarterback all the grief about retiring. Obviously, he still wants to play and compete in the sport that he's gifted in. No, he is NOT the sideshow; he just wants to advance to winning another Superbowl ring with the Minnesota Vikings. Brett that is one team that wants you on their side! That is certainly a team that needs your expert playing ability. Please, play Brett play!

I am so over Favre. If he were playing for love of the game that would be one thing, but he's only playing to as he so aptly put it "Stick it to Ted Thompson". I've got news for you Brett, when you stick it to Ted, you stick it to the Packers. When you stick it to the Packers, you stick it to the fans who supported you through all of your flip flopping, attention getting years. Somebody is leaking this information and it isn't the doctors. If Brett plays for the Vikings I will not have one ounce of respect left for him. How many NFL quarterbacks are let go because they can't perform? This is not a new concept. Brett held a nationally telecast press conference and retired and the Packers moved on. Grow up and find a new profession. You were WELL compensated for the 16 years you worked, that's right, worked for the Green Bay Packers. Quit making a fool out of yourself and let go and move on with your life. You are going to be 40 years old not 12.

Ok, Favre fatigue? Why? You, the media is making this a story - ya'll can't talk about anything else.

And, would you prefer we talk about some idiot exposing himself to a middle aged woman? Or, how about some jerk killing innocent dogs perhaps?

What has Favre done? Oh, let me see... set just about every major passing record in the NFL, played the game like a kid, and won more than he lost. What the hell is wrong with him wanting to play again? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. If the guy can still sling it, wants to be ravaged by 300 pound men, then let the guy play. It's a sport. If you have fatigue, simply write about something else.

Oh jeez... look... everyone.. how many of you smokers out there telling everyone that you will quit smoking only to come back to the same habit. You all should know... Favre has the right to play if he wants to. No big deal. Hard for him to quit... just like the rest of us smokers trying to quit. Let him go as long as he wants to. For sure, our lungs are saying we can do it for a few more years till quit time. When Favre officially retires, I will quit smoking.. period.
Let him play it out so we can smoke another year... heh??

To anyone the cares about this subject, I'll evoke William Shatner's response to his Star Trek fans: "Get a life!"

From long experience I have learned the media will run any story that meets their main qualification - keeping your attention long enough to notice the ads selling dog-food and mouthwash. This story qualifies.

Anonymous needs to get a life, and quite whinning about brett. the guy has never miss a game in his carear. have you ever thought maybe his body is a little sore, and he is trying to see if he can squeeze another year out of it with out destroying himself. i give him kudos for not joining just for the money, but for to win and making sure he can play. give the guy some respect. and to the farve haters, do you really think we have anyone on the roster that is even close to as good as brett. we have the team but no good QB!
