Childress puts deadline on Favre decision

Brett Favre doesn't seem to be in a hurry to make a decision about his NFL future. If he was, he probably would have undergone arthroscopic shoulder surgery earlier than late May to ready himself for the 2009 season.

The Vikings, however, suddenly seem to be getting antsy.  ESPN.com reported Monday that Vikings coach Brad Childress has set a deadline of this week for Favre to decide whether he's going to play in Minnesota.

Why the rush now?  If Childress is trying to show who's boss, he's picking a strange time for it.

The Vikings are winding down their pre-training camp practices this week.  Very little will happen as a team between now and late July, so it makes sense for the Vikings and Favre in the health of his shoulder before getting hitched.

Favre famously hates surgery of any kind, so his decision to go under the knife indicates he'll do everything possible to return to football.  And the Vikings clearly prefer Favre to Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson or they wouldn't be going through all this.

Favre will increase his post-surgery throwing over the next week.  But he's reportedly reluctant to commit to returning until he's sure that he's eliminated all all of his problems related to his torn biceps tendon. This is one time where his caution seems well-founded.

Childress has put himself in a potentially vulnerable situation.  Let's say Favre ignores the deadline until he feels comfortable with his shoulder, then says he wants to play three weeks from now.  Would Childress really turn him down then?

NFL writers are cheering this news, because it appears we'll have a resolution shortly.  Considering this is Brett Favre, I wouldn't be so sure.

This is based on the massive assumption that this report is true! Considering ESPN is widely-known to be in Brett's back pocket, this clearly came from him and not from the Vikings. Brett is watching the media dance as he holds the strings!

Enough of the Favre crap. He is obviously an errogant a^% who thinks nothing but of himself. When he was in GB he was great but whatever happened between the 2 soured .It does take 2 to screw this up,not just Green Bays fault either. So I think he should keep his butt home and cut grass so he doesn't look like a bigger a%% by going to Minnesota. This would then prove all he ever said in his interviews was a big lie and a boo hoo whoo is me story.
I'll bet you if the media would knock this off he would get P.O'd . no attention means nobody cares. I no longer do.

I don't blame Favre for playing for NY, the whole Packers thing was a mess, and he was still able to play (until he got hurt). But coming out of retirement should be a one time deal. When he was injured, the Jets should have replaced him, and he should have gotten surgery then, and he would have been able to make an informed decision at the end of the season about whether his body was still up for playing. So I think it should be up to the Jets to decide what to do with him.

But really, there are a few teams that a Packer icon should NEVER play for... division rivals, Cowboys, etc. I have defended Favre to many who call him a media hog, but I will stop defending if he plays traitor and plays for the Vikings. Seriously??!?!? How can you spend 16 years of your life as a Packer and then even think about playing for the Vikings? I suppose it could be worse... it could be the Bears :)

Who cares. Favre is old, tired, banged up and no amount of shoulder surgery will fix him. His career has been sliding and I would hate for a team to pay a 41 year old millions of dollars to lose. Just doesn't make sense. I don't dislike Favre, but how much does he have left.

Favre, a classic uneducated jock who does not know when to hang it up. Such a low class, that he does not understand; if his intention is revenge against GB top brass that is shallow and self-serving and ignoring the thousands of GB loyal fans that USED to worship him. What an IDIOT!!!!!!
