A Legend Is Lost

The Poker World lost one of its greats on Tuesday morning as David "Chip" Reese was found dead by his son in his Las Vegas home. Reese was reported to have been suffering from symptoms of pneumonia.
The man who many have argued was the best to ever play the game was best known for his cash game play. He played in Vegas' biggest cash games in all disciplines of poker, and was a regular in "The Big Game". In his later years, Chip began to play in more tournaments. In a World Series Broadcast he stated that his kids had wanted him to try tournaments in hopes to see him on TV. True to form, Reese won 3 WSOP bracelets, including a $1,716,000 win in 2006 for his victory in the coveted H.O.R.S.E. event
Reese was born in Ohio and learned poker at a young age from his mother. He went to Dartmouth College but dropped out to play poker professionally. When reached for comment, long time friend and poker companion Doyle Brunson said "He had the most even disposition of anyone I've ever met. He's certainly the best poker player that ever lived". Perhaps Brunson summed it up best, saying "He was one of the most unique individuals I have ever known, and poker has lost one of the greats today." Reese was 56 years old.
