Quote of the Week
"I always wake up thinking about Shanghai." -Juan Martin Del Potro
That is the quote of the week, as Argentina's Del Potro speaks about his goal of qualifying for the year end Masters Cup event, which is only open to the top 8 players on the ATP Tour. As of now, Juan is in a group of several players vying for the final three spots in the round robin event.
It's nice to see such hunger and passion coming from a top pro player. That quote reminds me of a young high school athlete who is fired up for the big "Thanksgiving Day football game," or a junior tennis player who is trying to qualify for the Kalamazoo Nationals. The irony is that Del Potro isn't too far off from those examples, as he is just barely 20 years old, meaning that in American standards he would be classified with High School students [hard to believe]. When I spoke one-on-one with Del Potro at the US Open, I was very impressed with his confidence and love for the sport. By no means was he cocky, he just exuded confidence [knowing that in a year of two he could be among the most dominant players in the world]. Don't worry Juan, your "Shanghai Dream" will become a reality in a few days.
