Cicma US Open Thoughts
So Serena Williams has been defaulted from the women's semifinals due to arguing with a lines judge over a foot fault call. This doesn't surprise me, and I'm undetermined if this is good or bad for the game....It will clearly make a big wave throughout the world of sports, and it's great to see Kim Clijsters back on the top of the tour. I think a few players on the WTA tour need to take a few months off, they include: Ivanovic, Jankovic, Serena and Safina..... Clijsters, on the other hand, is exactly what the WTA Tour needed, along with Melanie Oudin. As for the men, Rafael Nadal is unbelievable; for him to be in the semifinals after missing a number of weeks is nothing short of "extremely gutsy"....good for Rafa, a win at Flushing Meadows would go down as one of the best Grand Slam perfomances in the Open Era. PS- I loved being at the US Open this year, had a fantastic time. Another highlight was covering the World Team Tennis Legends event, with the likes of Billie Jean King, Stan Smith, Tracey Austin and Ivan Lendl to name a few.....Harry C

Vis-a-vis Serena's exit - someone ought to remind commentator John MacEnroe, who opined that a footfault call should never be made on such a big point in a big match, that rules are rules. Before the instant replay, on a big point, would he have a linesperson call a ball in if it was just out, but really close? Does he watch football? How many games each year are swayed or decided by highly judgmental pass interference calls? Also, it is worth noting that the unsportsmanlike conduct penalties are there in part because of his continuing and obnoxious unsportsmanlike conduct when he was at the top of his game, including the berating of linespersons. Some people never grow up.
As i said on a posting at usopen.org, which they would not post by the way, there is no doubt that Serena has a gift for the game, but her heart and sould could definitely use some tweeking! I think she is rotten to the core. rneel, USA
enough with LOSER Serena....get some news and interviews with Kim on your site!!!!!
Why do they not use the same system for footfaults that they use for other line calls? Sure the technology is available.
I think 10 K was a little lenient for a penalty.....
looks like a gorilla, acts like a gorilla
Serena became upset because she was clearly being outplayed and she wasn't expecting such a performance from someone who had retired years ago, married, had a baby, and had only a few matches under her belt. Tell JohnnyMac that rules are rules for a reason"to be fair to every player". Now how about some articles, interviews etc about the 2009 OPEN CHAMPION.
I think her acts should be suspended for a year to learn the manner of tennis game and John Mc too. He is never learn guy.
