There's actually a meaningful tournament again, the year end championships in London...so I am back. Here is a great picture from the ATP Tour: PS- I can't believe the US Open was more than two months ago.

About the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals
The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is the year-end climax to the men's professional tennis season, featuring only the world's best eight qualified singles players and doubles teams. This spectacular season-ending tournament determines the official year-end South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings and will also crown the official 2009 ATP World Tour Champion. Played using a round-robin format, the top eight ATP World Tour stars all play three matches as they battle for a berth in the knockout semi-finals, ensuring every match showcases tennis akin to the quality of at least a Grand Slam quarter-final. The prestigious tournament has been contested in major cities around the world with a rich history dating back to the birth of The Masters in 1970 in Tokyo. Since 2000 the event has taken place in cities such as Lisbon, Sydney, and most recently Shanghai. This year sees the tournament reborn as the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals to be held in the heart of London at The O2 arena from 2009 to 2013

Many of us were aware that Andre Agassi was a rebel in his early years, and during the time when he was married to Brooke Shields. However, the fact he admitted to doing crystal meth (drugs), is not a major surprise in my opinion, since it occurred during the Brooke Shields era in his life. The best part of Andre's career was when he picked up the pieces after getting a divorce from Shields. His French Open win over Medvedev was a major statement, proving that a new Andre was on the rise. Hence, his experience with meth is all part of the magical comeback which Agassi staged in the final chapter of his career (the Steffi Graf chapter, which also produced 5 Grand Slams). So this news of meth only strengthens the Agassi comeback story, which inspired millions of sports fans throughout the world. More to come on this subject....

Del Potro Heart

What an unbelievable result for the young Juan Martin Del Potro. His win over Federer is one of the best US Open title matches that I have ever seen, and he truly proved to be a solid contender for years to come. This reminds me of when Marat Safin beat Pete Sampras for his only US Open title, and it appeared as though there would be a changing of the guard. Similar to Marat, I believe Juan Martin will win another major championship, but unlike Marat, Del Potro likely won't stop at just two Grand Slam wins. It was another magical US Open, and look forward to the year end WTA and ATP events.

Cicma US Open Thoughts

So Serena Williams has been defaulted from the women's semifinals due to arguing with a lines judge over a foot fault call. This doesn't surprise me, and I'm undetermined if this is good or bad for the game....It will clearly make a big wave throughout the world of sports, and it's great to see Kim Clijsters back on the top of the tour. I think a few players on the WTA tour need to take a few months off, they include: Ivanovic, Jankovic, Serena and Safina..... Clijsters, on the other hand, is exactly what the WTA Tour needed, along with Melanie Oudin. As for the men, Rafael Nadal is unbelievable; for him to be in the semifinals after missing a number of weeks is nothing short of "extremely gutsy"....good for Rafa, a win at Flushing Meadows would go down as one of the best Grand Slam perfomances in the Open Era. PS- I loved being at the US Open this year, had a fantastic time. Another highlight was covering the World Team Tennis Legends event, with the likes of Billie Jean King, Stan Smith, Tracey Austin and Ivan Lendl to name a few.....Harry C
